Simran Dhillon

CO-FOUNDER | PRINCIPAL FINANCIAL PLANNER

SYDNEY

I was born in Sydney to Indian parents who migrated from Malaysia chasing bigger opportunities for their kids. From day one, they drilled into me that hard work and grit matter.

My perspective on money—and ultimately my career—was shaped watching my mum juggle multiple jobs after my parents separated. She worked around the clock to give my brother and me the best shot she could.

I still remember when she got some financial advice that helped her make some good investment decisions, improving our family's financial trajectory.

But there was no ongoing relationship with her adviser, no one to call when big money decisions came up later. Looking back, I can see how she could have reached the same place with less stress and struggle if she'd had the right financial partner in her corner.

That's what motivates me now. I've spent almost two decades as a financial planner, most of it at one of Australia's largest financial institutions.

I founded Abundant because I wanted to create something that goes beyond just numbers—a practice focused on people and turning "not possible" into "it's happening."

The clients I help have always been too busy, or overwhelmed to take concrete steps to secure a better future for themselves and their families. I become the link between their purpose and the actions that help them live their abundant life.

Outside of work, you'll find me at the gym, getting outdoors, or spending time with my young family. I'm a massive sports fan—soccer, AFL, NRL, cricket, basketball, tennis—you name it.

And yes, I'm a die-hard Liverpool Football Club supporter. YNWA.

Fun fact: I'm actually a star on an adventures reality TV show on Channel 7. Keep an eye out!

If you could live in any city in the world for a year, where would it be and why?

Paris. I mean is there many better places as a base for proximity to food, history, hiking, beaches, wine regions and football…

That ONE client moment that made you think "THIS is why I do what I do.

I started working with a couple about ten years ago. They had worked hard and made good decisions with their money, but were missing out on so many experiences with their kids because they were always working.

When we sat down and talked about what really mattered to them, they realised they wanted a life they could look back on without regrets. Their current life was not that. They had money, but to the detriment of time.

We put together a plan that would give them financial freedom - enough to live comfortably at home and really splash out on when they get away. Instead of just working for tomorrow, they could start living for today too.

They ended up retiring early at 60 and 56, confident about their future and knowing they'd set up their kids well too. When they said "We couldn't have done this without you," I reminded them they did all the hard work - I just guided them in the right direction.

Sadly, one of them passed away much earlier than expected. While nothing can prepare you for that kind of loss, at least money was one less thing the family had to worry about.
