Timothy Lee
CO-FOUNDER | PRINCIPAL FINANCIAL PLANNER
SYDNEY, BRISBANE & MELBOURNE
I was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where my parents instilled in me strong family values and a solid work ethic. Both corporate professionals, they showed me what it means to balance career success with being present for family and community.
After moving to Brisbane for university, I started my career as a research consultant at an advertising firm. The work was interesting, but something didn't sit right - it didn't align with what I wanted to contribute to the world.
Finding financial planning was finding my purpose. Over the past decade-plus, I've worked across Brisbane and Sydney in various practices - from large institutions to boutique firms.
During this time, my family experienced a profound loss when my brother passed away from leukemia. Living through that loss showed me why this work truly matters. While we focus on building wealth, what's equally important is helping families stay secure through life's hardest moments.
The best part of my day is hearing clients' life stories. Meetings feel like catching up with mates, with some "money talk" mixed in. This profession has given me a rich life - rich in experiences, not just financially.
I've made it a personal mission since turning 30 to experience something new every year. Life gets away from you if you're not intentional with it. You'll find me travelling to new destinations, trying new restaurants, or exploring fresh running and cycling routes with my wife. I've also made a commitment to spend more time playing music.
I'm a keen follower of triathlons, cycling, Formula 1, and (for better or worse) Manchester United Football Club.
I get so excited helping clients realise the best is yet to come, and that an abundant life is available to all of us.

If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive who would it be? Why?
My dad – after a few glasses of whiskey. He’s such a circumspect person that I enjoy one-on-one time with him. When he tells amazing stories about his childhood and professional and familial victories and challenges.
He’s lived a good life and provided me and our family a life without any wants for good things sacrificially…always family before self.
Hoping that I can repay him now that he’s in retirement and praying that I can be at least half the man he is – as my kids will be blessed then.
What's your favourite quote?

If you could live in any city in the world for a year, where would it be and why?
London – It has everything Sydney offers (great variety of good food, arts and theatre) and accessible to everything Sydney doesn’t offer (culture and history, entrepreneurship, short flight to everything amazing in Europe and the US).
That ONE client moment that made you think "THIS is why I do what I do.
I started working with a young couple four years ago - a client's mate's son who'd just returned from the US with his American girlfriend. They were clear about what they wanted in the next five years of their life together.
Today, seeing where they are brings me so much joy. They've achieved everything they set out to do: found and bought their dream home in Sydney, had the wedding they'd always wanted, and one of them is now taking off for parental leave to be with their new baby - exactly as they'd hoped.
Behind the scenes, we've set them up for long-term success too. They're on track for a $1M investment fund by age 55 (hello early retirement!), and we've made sure they're protected against life's curveballs with comprehensive insurance.
What excites me most is that this is just the beginning.
